Hi guys--that looks tasty! Interestingly enough, the Swedes have a Lent bun that now appears *right* after Christmas, but it used to only be available during Lent on Tuesdays only. Some people say its a pity, because they aren't as eagerly anticipated and appreciated, but I belong in the camp that I wish they had semlor buns year round! I would certainly eat them! I make Keith take me to Worcester to the Crown Bakery sometime during Lent so I can get my semla fix.

I actually laughed out loud yesterday at the Hema. The chocolate letters are on sale! I believe the oliebollen have been out at my station in Amsterdam (Sloterdijk) for at least two weeks now. It's just too darn early for me! They celebrate St. Maarten (at least where we are) - that's something they could focus on in between. But what do I know, eh?

Oh no! I have to admit I was shocked when I saw the Sinterklaas candy at Aldi in late September. It looks so much like Christmas candy to me. But Dan reminded me that there is no Halloween or Thankgiving here to fall between summer and Christmas, so it makes sense it would start to appear "early".

you know how we have Halloween decorations in the shops back in the US and it seems like every year they put them out sooner? Like it should be in October, but now it's already happening before school even starts up again in September? This is happening with the Oliebollen carts now too! I swear, pretty soon they'll be out in the middle of summer! how people are not sick of these things before New Year's Eve I have no idea!
